| Q15: |
What should I do if I smell natural gas in or around my facility? |
| A15: |
If you smell a faint natural gas odor near an appliance, first check to make sure all pilot lights are lit. If the odor persists, call us at 1 888 Nicor4u (1 888 642-6748).
If you smell a strong, persistent natural gas odor (or hear natural gas leaking) inside your facility, exit immediately, leaving doors and windows open as you exit. Do not open windows if they're not already open. Do not use your telephone or cell phone, operate any appliance, light a match or turn light switches on or off because sparks from them could ignite natural gas. Call 911 or Nicor Gas at 1 888 Nicor4u (1 888 642-6748) from a neighboring location.
If you smell a strong natural gas odor (or hear gas leaking) outside your facility, call Nicor at 1 888 Nicor4u (1 888 642-6748) or your local fire department. Be sure to keep people away from the suspect area.
