Naperville, IL – Nicor Gas today announced the continuation of its Pipeline Safety Public Awareness Program; a publicity campaign dedicated to increasing the public's understanding of pipeline operations and safety issues by explaining how the nationwide network of underground pipelines operates. Through July the company will mail out more than 2.6 million brochures with information about Pipeline Safety to its customers, as well as non-customers in affected areas throughout its northern Illinois service territory.
The Nicor Gas brochure, What You Need To Know About Pipeline Safety, offers information to stakeholders – including the general public, emergency officials, public officials, and excavators living and working near local distribution and transmission pipelines – about the presence of pipelines in their community, the role of pipelines in transporting natural gas, the variety of measures Nicor Gas undertakes to prevent pipeline accidents, as well as the management of accidents if they occur. The brochure, also available on Nicor Gas' Web site www.nicorgas.com, helps the public understand the steps that they can take to prevent and respond to pipeline emergencies.
